The Spade Blade: The Newest Additions
When it comes to ice fishing lures, options are in abundance. Not to mention, there’s new options that hit the season. Each category has its place – with a unique set of benefits and limitations market with every passing. Some options are relatively versatile, while others excel in limited scenarios.
Perhaps the most universal option is the spoon. They can be used throughout the entire season and can be used to target nearly any species. If you were to poll a group of ice anglers on their favorite ice fishing lures, there’s no question that a majority would settle on spoons of some variety. Spoons comes in different shapes, sizes, and composition, as well as different types – flutter spoons, speed spoons, rattle spoons, and more.
With so many options it’s difficult to imagine something all that different? That is – unless you partner with those individuals that can think outside of the box.
For the 2023-24 ice season, Eurotackle introduced the Spade Blade – offering a reimagined design on ice fishing’s most versatile category. “We partnered with Travis Krousie of J&S Custom Jigs on this project,” says Ben Vnh, owner of Eurotackle. “Travis has a knack for developing unique products that actually catch fish.” Anyone familiar with the ice fishing category has likely seen or fished with one of Travis’s creations. The ‘mad scientist’ behind the baits has earned his reputation as a creative lure designer- with one of his more infamous designs known as the Demon Tongue spoon (now sold under the Dinner Bell name).
The ‘Spade’ combines aspects of a variety of spoons to make a distinctive design. It features a metal base formed in a unique spade-like shape. “Its shape is what causes it to flutter,” adds Ben. “Not to mention, it’s a really unique flutter as well.”
In addition to its ability to flutter, the Spade Blade has aspects of attraction with its internal rattle and micro flapper blades. The centrally placed rattle chamber doesn’t impact the spoon’s fluttering action, but still provides added drawing abilities. The micro blades also have their own fish drawing power. “Obviously, the external blades add some additional sound attraction, but they also aid in visual attraction. The blades are designed to complement the overall color patterns of the individual spoons, while maintaining some contrast from the spoon itself,” adds Ben.
The initial launch of the Spade Blade included two different sizes – 1/16 oz and 1/4 oz. While the initial offerings saw a wide range of success, one of the most requested additions was a smaller size. New for the 2024-25 ice season, Eurotackle is proud to introduce a new size – 1/20 oz.
In addition to new size, two new color schemes have been added to the lineup bringing the full spread to nine. The Spade is a great option for species of all types, including walleye, trout, panfish, and bass.
The Spade Blade lineup is available at Eurotackle retailers across North America and at eurotackle.net.
