An American Take on a European Classic
Although it’s known worldwide, the tailspin is largely used throughout the European continent. With origins ‘across the pond’, the category has been popularized by anglers targeting perch, trout, pike and zander.
While it has expanded to the US market, the tailspin has primarily only grabbed the attention of bass anglers.
Enter Ben Vnh, owner of Eurotackle. A fisherman himself, he grew up on the canals of Belgium and developed an understanding of how effective the category could be. After moving to the US in the early 2010s, Ben quickly realized that there was room in the marketplace for more European influence. Launching the Eurotackle brand in 2015, he developed a series of finesse and micro finesse lures – each with their own sense of Euro inspiration. I mean, with a name like Eurotackle, one can only assume.
New for 2024, Eurotackle is proud to introduce the I-Shimmer - a micro tailspin tailored for finesse and ice anglers. Coming in at just over half an inch, the I-Shimmer packs such serious punch in a very small package.
The bait’s shining aspect? The Colorado blade affixed via a double swivel - a key aspect to be considered a member of the tailspin family. “The blade and swivel design were an important component to figure out,” says Ben. “There’s plenty of options on the market that combine jigs and blades, but I wanted a true tailspin - something that paid homage to its European roots.”
Ben goes on to discuss the development process. “The I-Shimmer has been in the works for years but was formally in development for around two years. It took some time to get things right, but I’m confident people will like this bait.” The bait saw catches of crappies, perch, and trout throughout the testing process.
The bait features a Mustad #20 hook - placed specifically to aid with hook-up ratio.
The I-Shimmer is made from bismuth, a lead-free material. “As the industry continues to progress, we want to make sure we’re doing our part to limit our impacts to the environment,” adds Ben.
The I-Shimmer is a great option for BFS and ice fishing anglers - adding some serious drawing power to the equation.
The initial release features seven color schemes, including classic, glow and realistic options.
