I Spy With My Little Eye

Eurotackle is no stranger to the hardbait game. The brand’s origin in the hard bait market came in 2017 with the introduction of a one-of-a-kind lipless crankbait, the Z-Viber. It’s unique design took the market by storm and led to the introduction of several other micro lipless crankbaits.

Since inception, the company has expanded its lineup of hard baits to include four sizes of Z-Vibers, a micro crankbait (the Z-Cranker), a micro jerkbait (the Z-Spender), a micro popper (the Z-Popper), and a micro darting bait (the Z-Darter). While the Z-Series lineup was starting to feel complete, there was still room for a few more additions.

“I knew the Z-Series lineup wasn’t quite complete,” says Ben Vnh, owner of Eurotackle. “When we looked at the lineup it felt like something was missing. Before we start the design process for new baits, we really examine the market to see what’s missing the mark.”

After careful consideration, Eurotackle took to the drawing board to develop a micro addition to the spinbait and spybait category. “This category is certainly a popular one, especially for finesse fishermen,” says Ben. “That being said, it seemed like most options on the market were a little larger in size.” For 2025, Eurotackle is proud to introduce the Z-Spyer .

The Z-Spyer comes in at 2-inches and 1/8 oz, making it one of the smallest spybaits on the market. Spybaits are known to be some of the best finesse baits, but when you make it micro, the opportunities are endless.

The “Spyer” was developed to mimic a baitfish. It features a subtle slow roll, internal rattle system, and micro blades which produce a lifelike action that fish can’t resist. While baits in this category were specifically developed for members of the black bass family, the Z-Spyer is also a great option for crappies, trout, walleye and more.

The Z-Spyer was designed to be fished with a variety of finesse spinning rods and BFS rods. Rely on light lines and long leaders to ensure the most success.

When fishing a spybait, there’s a few key considerations:

  1. Make long casts. Longer casts will ensure the bait gets into the strike zone.
  2. Count down the bait as it falls. Spybaits are designed to fall slowly. Counting it down will ensure consistent results.
  3. Use a slow and steady retrieve. Unlike many other bait categories, spybaits are more effectively fished in a slow and steady motion.

The Z-Spyer is available five of the top Eurotackle patterns including natural and colorful options.

The “Spyer” can be found at eurotackle.net or at Eurotackle dealers across North America. It’s the perfect tool for spying beneath the surface.
